Birthday Blog & Recent Happenings

I had an amazing birthday weekend.  Friday (the 15th of February) as soon as I got off work Wesley & I headed to Billings to spend the weekend.  After switching hotels (because when we showed up to the place we originally booked – we saw part of it was under construction.  No. Thank. You) we stayed at the Holiday Inn Grand Montana.  It was beautiful!  We loved it.  Friday we ordered in Papa John’s Pizza (we LOVE Papa John’s and can only get it in Billings) and hung out at the hotel since we got there late.  Saturday we got up & had breakfast at the hotel, then headed out to the M.A.T.E. (Montana Agri-Trade Exposition) show.  There was a home show along with the equipment show so we really enjoyed it.  I found lots of cute cloths (including a shirt I couldn’t resist – The Real Housewives of Montana!) and Wesley even snagged himself a shirt.  We spent quite a while at the MATE and afterwards headed back to the hotel to get ready for our couples massage.  About an hour & a half before our massage was scheduled to start we got a call from our massage therapist who said she had to cancel because she was sick.  Big bummer!  BUT, we didn’t let that spoil our fun!  We headed down to the hotels pool & hot tub for some relaxation.  Wesley was enjoying the pool and although it looked appetizing to me as well, I decided the warm hot tub is where I wanted to be!

That evening we got dressed & headed out to grab dinner at Texas Roadhouse.  Upon arrival we found out the wait was over an hour for a table of two…ridiculous!  SO, we headed back to the lounge/bar at our hotel for food & drinks.  We ended up having the best time there!  We watched the UT Basketball game, ate delicious food, had a few drinks, and enjoyed people watching & each other’s company.  And, we had quite a good time making up conversations for others at the bar (you know – where I make up lines for the girl & Wesley makes up lines for the guy.  Ok maybe we only do that…but still – we have fun doing it)!

Sunday we slept in a bit, then headed to Denny’s for a delicious breakfast.  After breakfast we decided a trip to the Montana Zoo was in store.  While this zoo is not quite like any other zoo I’ve been to before (to be honest – it sucks in comparison) it was special to me because I got to enjoy the trip on my birthday with my love.  We saw grizzly bears, wolves, a Siberian tiger, river otters, a peacock, and even some red pandas!  The weather was turning for the worse on that Sunday so after the zoo we packed up and started to head home.  Good thing too because no sooner did we leave to get on the road & it started to really snow!  We got home that afternoon & Wesley cooked me a delicious birthday dinner consisting of a juicy rib eye steak, potatoes, and corn.  And after that we had the best time playing the new $5 games we bought for our Wii!  My sister & Tanner gave me a beautiful turquoise cross necklace & matching bracelet for my birthday.  My parents gave me things for my Cricut, a new book, and a box full of goodies!  My sweet husband gave me a new purse, tons of new clothes, a wonderful dinner and another birthday I’ll never forget.  I’m a very blessed lady to have such wonderful people in my life!

Monday the 18th I was off work because it was President’s day.  I had intentions of sewing that day, but I started to feel a bit under the weather, so I decided to rest instead.  Tuesday I went to work, and progressively got worse.  By Wednesday I couldn’t breathe out of my nose, had body aches, couldn’t sleep, and had a horrible cough.  If I would have ran fever I would have thought I had the flu.  But, thank God, I didn’t.  However, I felt terrible!!  So Wednesday & Thursday of last week I stayed home from work so I could get over what I had & not give it to anyone either!

By this past weekend I was feeling much better than I did during the week.  Friday evening Wesley & I went on a date to one of our local favorite restaurants – The Longhorn Bar & Steakhouse in Rosebud.  Saturday Wesley & I fed, then I spent the morning with Moo Moo while Wesley & his dad went to doctor a heifer calf (poor girl got porcupine quills in her nose!) and then sort some cows.  Moo Moo & I made lunch together for the guys and enjoyed a nice morning filled with chatter.  Afterwards we ended up sitting around the kitchen table talking to his parents for most of the afternoon enjoying some much needed time with everyone.  Around 4 that afternoon it started to rain…Thank the LORD!  So, Wesley and I took the boys (our dogs) home and settled in for an evening of games & movies.  Sunday we went to feed & discovered our cows broke the entire west side of one of the fences surrounding a hay yard on the ranch.  So while Wesley started to fix that I went & fed the heifer calves & horses.  I came and helped after I got done putting out hay for the heifers and we had a new fence built in no time.   Then David, Wesley & I loaded up the truck & trailer & went to a roping in Miles City.  It was a small roping at a friend’s barn but Wesley won 3rd place!  I was so proud!

This weekend we have to bring in & sort our heifers to see which ones we’ll breed & which ones we’ll spay.  Its supposed to be a beautiful weekend up here – highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.  It will be a great weekend for Wesley & I to try out our new outdoor fire pit that we purchased!  Can’t wait to spend the evening sitting around the fire under the starlit sky!

Here are a few pictures from our trip to Billings.  Of course I went off & forgot my camera at home that weekend so these are taken with my cell phone (so sorry about the quality).  I have pictures from the zoo too, so I’ll have to upload those from my phone as well!!

At the lounge/bar on Saturday

Getting ready to go!

One More Surprise

My sweet husband had one more surprise up his sleeve for Valentine's Day today...1 dozen long stem red roses delivered to me at work!  They are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!  I love them!  Have I mentioned how much I love my husband??!

The Day of Love

Valentine’s Day…the day of love.  Wesley and I exchanged Valentine’s gifts this morning because he just can’t help himself when he’s got a gift to give!  So we rolled out the presents this morning.  He got me a beautiful cross for our kitchen table, and another iron cross to hang on our cross wall in the living room.  I love them!  I got him a nice rolling tool box (that he’s needed for quite a while now) and a magnetic bracelet for him to wear when he’s fencing & such to hold all his nuts, bolts, and screws so he doesn’t have to fumble around in a pocket, bag, or put them in his mouth (because if all else fails your mouth does a good job at holding nails).

Of course Wesley fixed me a delicious breakfast this morning for Valentine’s day, and we are having a nice candlelit supper this evening in our home.  My sweet husband is making me ribeye steaks (medium rare), potatoes, and a vegetable.  I handled dessert – homemade chocolate covered strawberries!  We aren’t wine drinkers, so we’ll be sharing a nice red beer together to go with our delicious meal this evening!

Tomorrow we head out to the big town of Billings for a 2 night stay to celebrate the holiday of love, my birthday, and do some relaxing as well.  The M.A.T.E. (Montana Agri-Trade Exposition) show is going on in Billings this weekend so we are going to hit that up as well!  They have everything from bulls to bows, combine’s to cutlery…so we are super excited to see what we might be able to find (or look at) for the home AND ranch!  Then we will be getting a couples massage together at a day spa in Billings, and doing a little shopping as well.

I won’t sit and list all the things I love about my husband (although it would be totally appropriate since it’s the day of love today) but I will tell him that I love him more and more each day and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my Valentine’s days with him!  I love you babe!

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

Doing Business As...

With the encouragement of my husband, Mom, and a few close friends, I’ve decided to write the post I haven’t wanted to write just yet.  You see, with the big announcement in writing, it makes it “official”.  I’ve teased about the things I’m making from baby items to crafty tiles, and its time I inform you what we have up our sleeve.

A while back, Wesley and I decided that (one day) it would be in the best interest of our family to have me stay at home.  However, I wanted to have some sort of income to help supplement what I won’t be making when the time comes (whenever that may be down the road) that I leave my current place of employment.  Wheels started spinning, a crazy crafter came out, and the idea for a “home based” shop was formed.  We’ve worked on this for a few months now, and we still have lots of loose ends to tie up, but with that said I would like to introduce you to our creation:

LAZY D BOUTIQUE

We applied for and received our DBA papers so we are official business owners with the state of Montana!  I was hoping to have my cute business cards lined out for the big introduction, but they aren't quite done yet. Here is what we offer:

I promise to get pictures up VERY soon.  We have a weekend trip planned this weekend so I’m hoping I can get them up sometime on Monday when I have the day off!  As I said, there is still so much for us to do (including getting our business cards finalized) but we are happy to start taking orders if anyone would like anything!

I stand corrected...

Today while at lunch my sweet husband corrected me of our new bully's name.  It is NOT Frederick.  It is Franklin.  And for short, we are calling him Frank the Tank.

There you have it folks...compromise at its finest :)

So please excuse my error...our new bull's name is Franklin.  Frank the Tank for short!

Frederick....or Tank?

Its been a bit since I’ve written…so sorry about that.  Life seems to happen sometimes and things get so busy.  But, I’m back on track now!

The weather last week was not good at all.  I stayed home Monday from work because of the roads, went home early Tuesday & Wednesday, and stayed home Thursday…all due to the weather!  We had snow all day every day, and the wind chill last Tuesday & Wednesday made it feel like it was -20 degrees outside!  YIKES!  Last Friday I was scheduled to be off because Wesley & I were going to a bull sale.  So, I had a nice long weekend at home.  Because of the weather I was able to do some much-wanted sewing!  I made some more sets of burp cloths, bibs, and matching pacifier holders.  And, I made some cute coasters as well.  Stay tuned – Wesley and I will have a BIG announcement about all the things I’m making…coming soon!!

This week Mandy’s boyfriend Matt is here helping Wesley get caught up on breaking & riding the colts of this season.  They have 12 horses to ride...quite a task!  Yesterday Wesley came home & told me they were able to get 4 of them to lay down for them.  HOLY COW!  That’s a big feat to accomplish when working with horses.  Once they laid them down they got on top of them & loved on them & rubbed their bellies.  It shows a sign of trust among horse & rider, and demonstrates control & respect.  Good job guys!  Y’all are doing great!!  I can’t wait to see how our horse Squirt turns out…Wesley said he’s “gonna be a bad dude!”

I mentioned a bull sale that Wesley & I attended this past weekend.  We purchased our first bull together this past weekend & couldn’t be more proud of him.  We went to a private treaty sale here in Miles City & snagged us a registered Polled Hereford Bull.  To most people this is not a big deal…but to us beef raisers, it’s a big deal!  I wanted to name him Tank, but Wesley said they already had a bull named Tank once & wants to name him Frederick.  Why Frederick?  I have no idea.  So, I think the debate continues on the bulls name.  He’s just a yearling now & has lots of growing to do, but we sure do like him!

Frederick or Tank the Bull!  He's our guy :)

This weekend Wesley & I are going on a date.  We are deciding what we are going to do tonight & then Saturday we are going to go out on a date together!  Then next weekend (for my birthday & Valentine’s day) we are going to spend the weekend in Billings.  We were going to go to Deadwood, but our favorite hotel was completely booked (and we refuse to stay anywhere else).  So, we decided a trip to Billings would definitely be do-able too!  Wesley and I have lots planned for our Billings trip so I’m anxious & excited for next weekend to get here already so we can get out of town & have some fun!

The weather here this week has been surprisingly pleasant.  We are having high’s in the upper 40’s and lows in the 20’s…not bad for February in Montana.  We hope the beautiful sunshine & nice weather continues.  We are currently calving a set of 20 heifers that David purchased & things started out a bit rough for us.  We normally don’t start calving until late March/early April so calving in January has been a trip, especially with the weather last week!  But, we only have 2 more heifers to go so that’s the plus side of it.

We hope everyone has a great week & weekend!  It can’t get here soon enough for the Davenports!
