Crazy busy doesn’t begin to describe our weekend this past weekend, but it was a good one. Saturday started out with Wesley cutting hay, and halfway thru a plate broke on the swather so we had to go to Hysham to get a replacement part at the implement dealer there. When we got home Wesley went to put the new part on the swather & I stayed behind to get things ready for the roping in town that evening. We left the house about 5:20 Saturday afternoon & got home about 11:30 that night. What a night Wesley had in town at the roping let me tell you!! Beaming with pride doesn’t even begin to describe how proud I was of him at the roping. He got 1st, 3rd, and 5th in the first roping of the night, and then 1st and 3rd in the second roping! He did an outstanding job! We find out this Saturday what place he is in the roping but by all accounts from what I can figure he is first in the heading and should be about 2nd in the heeling. If he continues at this unstoppable rate he will end up winning a saddle and buckle at the end of the season! Can’t wait to watch him rope some more and see how the summer roping season turns out for him J
Sunday morning Wesley, David, and I all got up bright & early to head to the ranch in Opheim, Montana that his parents own (and where our steers & spay heifers call home). It takes about 5 hours to get there. I was pretty excited (even though I was running on 4 hours of sleep) because it was the first time I was going to get to experience the ranch in Opheim (a full post devoted to Opheim is coming soon), and the first time I would get to see some countryside other than southeast Montana. Wesley and David were also entered in the Opheim rodeo that afternoon roping together, so we got to watch a little roping again that afternoon. Although they didn’t do so well in Opheim, they had fun roping and we all had fun watching the rodeo.
Monday morning we took a potential cattle buyer around to show him our steers & spay heifers, and then packed up to head back home. Wesley and I left Monday about 11:30 AM, and David & Jewel came back Tuesday. Wesley and I stopped and had lunch in Glasgow, then stopped in Miles City to run a few errands & get a few things before coming home. We got home about 6:00 Monday evening and were greeted by 2 happy dogs who were more than excited to see us (mainly because they had to spend the night outside on Sunday night & didn’t get to come in since we weren’t home). After checking water, bottle feeding the baby calf, giving the chickens water, and turning out the horses, Wesley and I turned in that evening to watch our TV shows that we recorded while we were gone.
Tomorrow is the 4th of July and a good reason to celebrate all the great things about our great Nation – including BBQ! Wesley and I plan to do a little hunting & touring on the ranch tomorrow morning, then we are going to finish up our 4th by throwing some thick cut rib eye steaks on the grill, with some sweet corn, Dutch oven mac-n-cheese, baked beans, and a trifle & sopapilla cheesecake for dessert! We are pretty excited about the 4th…it’s a good reason to soak up the sun and enjoy good, AMERICAN food – including beef. If you haven’t tried a delicious, medium-rare cooked rib eye, sirloin, or T-bone steak or hamburger lately, you don’t know what you’re missing! ;-)
God Bless America!!
