Where Do Weekends Go?!

The weekend has come and gone, and it feels like we never got a weekend at all!  Friday night we watched a movie at the house.  Then Saturday we fed and messed around the ranch a little, then went to Miles City that afternoon to run some errands.  Wesley got his Valentine’s gift from me (a little early because he needed it)…a nice new Husky 455 Rancher chain saw.  He was very excited about it!  He had been wanting one for so long and really needed one to do the work he does out in the pastures with clearing land, so I told him that would be my Valentine’s gift to him.  So of course we took it home and he fired it up Saturday evening!  Sunday we fed the cattle, then cleaned out and organized our entire office.  It took us an hour or so, but we now have everything filed, organized, and ready to go when calving season comes around.  Then that evening I cooked a nice big unhealthy meal for us…chicken fried chicken, homemade fried okra, and French fries…it was delicious if I do say so myself!

Although it seems like we didn’t do much, its like we blinked our eyes and the weekend was over, and now its back to work.  Tonight we are going to Miles City to start roping on some of our colts (and by “we” I mean Wesley…I’m still learning to rope).  I’m going to take pictures, and hop on Reno if he’s brought along for the trip.  I love the way Wesley breaks our colts, they turn out so soft.  Wesley put a rope halter on Reno this Saturday and threw the lead rope over his back, then boosted me up and I rode him bareback around the arena.  This horse is quite tall…too tall for me to get on by myself with stirrups, so I definitely couldn’t get on without them.  Then I just slid off his backside to let myself down when I was done riding.  He does an amazing job breaking all of our horses, and that right there proves it!  I know I know I’m bragging again…but I can do that!   So back to what I was saying…I’ll hop on Reno if he’s brought along tonight and ride him around while the guys are switching horses or something.

The weather here has been really good, so I hope I don’t jinx it by saying that!  We’ve had high’s in the 50’s and lows in the lower 20’s…not bad for the middle of winter in Montana!  We are expecting the same weather pattern throughout the rest of this week and into the weekend, so hopefully I’ll get some riding time in this weekend before winter comes back & brings ice & snow with it!

Wedding plans are moving right along for Wesley & me, and Wesley has picked out a spot where he’d like us to get married overlooking the mountains & cottonwood trees beside the soft rolling creek.  Sound amazing?  That’s because it is.  It is gorgeous if I may say so!  We are very excited to start planning our special day!

I believe that is all that is going on in the lives of Wesley & Tiffany.  I hope everyone has a good week & I’ll update again soon!

A true taste of winter

For the last few days we have been digging out from under all the snow that has fallen across our area!  Last Wednesday I left work early to beat the snowstorm home, and to get home before the roads got icy.  It was snowing slightly Wednesday afternoon, but nothing major.  Thursday morning I woke up to the kind of snowfall that I’ve never seen before!  We had well over a foot of snow…so much snow that it came up to my knees!  Wesley made me wait until it was fully daylight outside (obviously, with the road conditions the way they were, I did not go into work Thursday) before I went outside and caught my first look at actual snowfall.  It was beautiful!  Cold…but beautiful!  The snow was so powdery fine…like dust.  It was not wet snow at all.  And it snowed practically all day Thursday.  It let up for about an hour or two, and it was back at it again.  So I spent the day with Wesley, and after we got done feeding the heifers & steers that morning, we turned in for the rest of the day.  It was wayyyy too cold outside to do anything else.  It was about -8 that day.  Thursday night into Friday morning we got about another 6 inches of snow, taking our total to around 16-18 inches of snow in two days!  Since the roads were icy again on Friday I was told to stay home from work again.  Jiggs and I hung out in the house all morning while Wesley went to feed, then we all had lunch together, and went and picked up a bull his dad purchased from the neighbor.  That night Sarah, Clint, and little Jack came over for dinner and card games.  We had a lot of fun with them.  I held Jack all evening (imagine that?!).  We played a board game, had dinner, then played some cards.  We are supposed to get together with Clint & Sarah again this coming weekend, so we’ll see!

Saturday was more cold weather, but no snow!  We tried to go sledding on Saturday, but the snow was so light & fluffy still that I just sank down in it!   Wesley tried to give me a running start, but even that didn’t work!  So we put the toboggan away for another day (possibly this Saturday), and played some games inside together.  Saturday night we had the card party at his parents’ house.  That was a lot of fun.  Wesley won for the highest total score, and I won for the lowest.  It lasted pretty late into the night, but it was a lot of fun for us.

Sunday we fed the cattle, then painted our office before watching football.  We were disappointed that the Patriots and Giants were going to the Superbowl, but whatever.  We won’t be watching that game because neither of us like either of those teams.

We are slowly thawing out here, but there is still a LOT of snow on the ground.  We got rain Saturday night so that helped “pack down” some of the snow, but it also made it really slippery…and really icy on the roads!  We don’t have much planned for this week since we got all of our painting done (for now), and look forward to a quiet weekend.  Hopefully we won’t be getting anymore snow…that was quite a bit at one time for this Texas girl.  But I must admit, it was a pretty amazing sight to wake up to everything covered in the powdery white stuff…it was beautiful!

Winter Has Arrived

Well…as the old saying goes…all good things must come to an end.  The “good thing” being the not-so-hard winter (or should I say, lack of) that we have been experiencing up here in the Big Sky Country.  On Sunday evening the winter weather moved in, and it appears its here to stay…at least until the end of this week.  We got about 2 inches or so of snow on Monday, and were hit with another round of snow last night.  We probably got another two inches last night, and then it has been snowing non-stop all day today.  I took pictures on my phone of some of the snow here in downtown Forsyth, and sent them to family & friends back home for all of them to see what we are experiencing up here…and this is just the beginning (so I’m told)!  The high today is -8…that’s right, negative 8 degrees.  The low…care to take a guess?  The low is about -15, and factor in the wind chill, and it will feel like -30 degrees this evening and thru the night.  It is supposed to snow all the way until Friday, where it starts to “warm up” a bit by the weekend.  When I say warm up…that means it gets out of the single digits.  This weekend the high is about 30, and that’s a heat wave compared to what I’m experiencing now!

This past weekend we ran a few errands, and mostly hung out on the ranch.  Saturday we went to Miles City with Moo Moo & David to take the skid steer (some piece of equipment that grinds trees & has a bucket thing on the front of it) to get it worked on.  Then we went to lunch with them at the Rib & Chop in Miles City, and finally headed home.  Once we got home there was a younger girl coming out to get a filly to make her show horse for the fair this year here in town.  So we went & helped load the little filly onto the trailer, then we turned in for the evening.  Sunday we got up and went to church, then went to breakfast at a local cafĂ©.  After that we came home & finished painting our hallway.  Now we are halfway done with painting!  That afternoon Moo Moo & David came over to play Pinochle with us, and we watched a little football too.  Monday it was so cold & blowing snow outside that we didn’t do a whole lot outside.  We fed the heifers & steers as usual, then called up and fed some colts in one of the pastures.  Finally, since it was the first “big” snowfall of the year, Wesley took me and the dog riding around the ranch so I could take some pictures of the landscape with the snow that had recently fallen.  It was beautiful!  The cows were covered in snow…it was so cute!  I snapped a few pictures of them as well.

Tuesday it was back to the daily grind.  And of course today it is snowing like crazy here in town!

This weekend we are going to have our friends Clint & Sarah (and baby Jack) over for dinner & cards on Friday night, then we have a card party that we are going to on Saturday night at Moo Moo & David’s house.  David was just itching to get me good at Pinochle so they could have a card party!  He called us Monday night and made sure we didn’t’ have plans for Saturday evening because they want us there at their card party!  It was really cute.  So we are going to play cards Saturday night!  Then on Sunday we are going to try out a different church, and probably paint the office as well.

And for those of you who don’t already know, Wesley and I would like to announce that we are engaged!  We are very excited about the engagement and look forward to spending our lives together!

I hope everyone has a great week and stays a heck of a lot warmer than we are!!

Hooray For The Weekend!

Although we don’t have much planned for this weekend, yet, I’m sure something will come up.  It always does it seems!  We started painting our house in preparation for the upcoming wedding of his oldest sister in June.  I wanted the whole house painted because we are having some of the groom’s family stay with us.  So, we started in the living room.  We primed it during the week, and Wesley finished painting it before I got home from work yesterday.  It looks great!  This weekend the goal is to get the hallway primed and painted.  Then we will do the office, master bathroom, and then master bedroom.  Then after that we are going to redo the floors in the kitchen and laundry room.  And all of this really needs to be done before calving season starts up in April, because after that we will be super busy with the Momma’s and the babies, and then the wedding will be here!

Sunday Wesley has to help the neighbors load cattle in the morning, so I’ll probably get a start on the walls in the hallway if I haven’t done so by then.  Then we plan on going to see the movie “War Horse” this Sunday evening here in town.

Next week is shaping up to be a pretty crappy week as far as the weather is concerned.  Its supposed to snow most of the week next week, with high’s only making it to the 20’s, and lows (at times) as low as 0 or even below 0.  Monday evening to Tuesday morning the low is -2…now that’s cold!  It is hard to say right now whether this will be any “measurable” amount of snowfall, but we are expected to see flakes of snow every day next week.

Tonight I am picking up a pizza from the local pizza place here in town, and we plan on playing cards this evening just the two of us.  We might end up playing a board game as well, but Wesley said he’s going to teach me a new card game tonight.  So we’re looking forward to that!

We hope everyone has a great weekend!  For me (us) it’s a 3 day weekend…so we are really excited about that!

Weekend Wrap-Up

As always, the weekend goes by way too fast.  But, I did get my riding in just as I wanted to this past weekend!  Friday evening we didn’t do much.  We made finger foods for dinner, and watched some bowl games that were on TV that evening.

Saturday morning we got up and fed the heifers & steers.  Then we had to go gather up the steers to bring in the ones with infections in their eyes, and castrate some that were left as bulls.  What should have been about an hour long process of gathering those little devils ended up being about two hours because they did not want to be gathered…period!  We finally got the majority of them rounded up, and put them in the corral.  Then it was time to sort them.  Not all of them needed tending to, just the ones who had watery eyes or infections in their eyes, and the bulls that needed to be castrated.  We started out sorting steers on horseback in the corrals, but eventually got on foot, because we could see the infections a lot better on the ground verses being on the horses.  Even though we were on foot those little guys still didn’t want to cooperate with us!  So, I resorted to pulling a few of them by their tails & getting them into the corral that way!  Wesley followed suit with a few of them also, and Moo Moo & David got a big kick out of us pulling them by their tails!  We ended up “doctoring” about 40 or so steers, then trialing them back out to the pasture they were in.

Then it was time to gather the cows and bring them thinner ones in so they could be fed more & get more “beefed” up.  The cows were a little more cooperative, but they still wanted to get a little wild at times!  We brought those back in the pens at about 3 PM, and Moo Moo & I went in the house to warm up a bit (the winds were bad on Saturday afternoon), while Wesley & David sorted off the “thin from the thick”.  It was about 4 PM when they were done sorting, and they trailed the cows back out to the pasture, while Moo Moo & I took the truck & trailer out & met the guys to pick them up & bring the horses in so it wouldn’t take them as long to get back to the house.  After a fun filled day of riding, gathering, and doctoring, we were exhausted!!  The Cotton Bowl (or some bowl) was on TV on Saturday night, so we propped up on the couch and watched the game!

Sunday we were both wide awake at 6 AM!  So we watched a movie, then made breakfast & went & fed the heifers & steers.  After that we decided to make a quick run to Miles City to get some dog food, and look at a few other things, and get some groceries while we were there.  We ended up coming home with a Wii along with all of our other goodies.  We LOVE that thing!  We had the best time playing games together last night.  We are big game people…we love playing games.  We have a collection of board games, and now we have the Wii to play together!  We eventually want to get the Wii Fit so we can start working out together.  But for now, we are enjoying playing super Mario brothers and a few other games that we have.

We don’t have much planned for tonight, but of course to play our Wii!  We hope everyone has a great week, and we miss everyone in Texas, but we are having a blast together up here!

The First Week of 2012

Well the holidays have gone just as fast as they came around.  We celebrated our New Year with family and friends up in Montana.  Friday night Moo Moo & David came over to play cards with us.  We played a few games of Pinochle, and needless to say Wesley & Moo Moo beat me & David each time!  Oh well…you win some you lose some.

Saturday Wesley went to feed in the morning, and I spent the morning cleaning up the house and ironing clothes to get ready for the wedding we had to attend that evening.  Wesley was an usher in the wedding, so we had to leave the house at 2 to get there in time.  He looked so handsome in his suit coat and pants!  (Yes, I’m bragging…but I love him…so I get to do that :-))!  The wedding was at 4 and lasted until about 4:30.  After that we went to his friend Clint & Sarah’s to see their baby Jack (2 ½ months old) and give Jack his Christmas present.  Clint & Sarah also got us a house warming/Christmas present & gave it to us that night as well.  We all headed to the reception about 5:30.  We ate dinner at the wedding, then left the reception about 8 PM to head to a local bar for a drink with Clint & Sarah.  We had a drink with them, then ran to the store while we were in Miles City, and finally came home to bring in the New Year in our first home.  We got home about 10:30 PM, and played board games & watched TV until it was midnight.  Sunday we got up and fed the heifers & steers, then came home to start taking down Christmas decorations, and cleaning the house!  We got the house cleaned, tree taken out, clothes washed, and porch cleaned out all on Sunday… we were busy!

I was off work on Monday in observance of the New Year, so I got to hang around the ranch all day with Wesley.  We went out & fed the heifers & steers that morning, then ate lunch and went to the Amish community to take a saddle to be repaired, and pick up some lumber.  We were unsuccessful with the lumber, but got the saddle taken to the right repair man!  Then we were told of another man down the road that might have some lumber, so we headed to Ashland, Montana to find him (about 30 miles from the house).  He wasn’t there yesterday, but Wesley & David are going to go this evening and get the lumber from him (they are building a new chute and are in need of the lumber).

I haven’t been riding since we got back from Texas, so that’s on the “to do” list for this weekend (hopefully)!  We hope everyone has a great week!

Happy New Year!!

Welcome 2012!!  We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, and rang in 2012 just as they wanted!  Wesley & I had a wonderful Christmas.  We started out with Christmas a few days early with Moo Moo & David.  They got us a new chest freezer, dishwasher, Wesley an electric branding iron, and me a beautiful Montana Silversmith bracelet.  We were very blessed with all of this and very grateful!  On Wednesday the 21st we headed out for Billings, early, because a snow/ice storm had moved into Montana and we didn’t want to be on the roads at night.  We stayed at a hotel that night, then got up at 3 AM to catch our flight out of Billings.  We arrived at the airport about 4:15 AM Thursday morning, got our bags checked, and waited for our flight to take off.  About 5:45 we boarded the plane, and pushed back from the terminal right around 6 AM.  We taxied to the runway, and then the pilot came over with the most dreadful words possible – “Ladies & Gentleman, due to the snow storm in Denver (our connecting destination), our flight has been delayed by an hour.  We are going to bring drinks around, and play a movie, and hopefully we will be cleared for takeoff about 7 AM our time”.  GREAT!  To make matters worse, Wesley & I were not sitting together on this flight.  Somehow our seats got mixed up…so he was 3 rows in front of me.  Bummer.  Not only did I have to fly an hour sitting next to strangers, but now I had to sit an hour on the runway of the airport waiting to take off…for an HOUR!  We finally took off about 7 AM from billings, and arrived in Denver about 8:15 AM.  Neither Wesley nor myself even knew we had landed in Denver, and not because we were asleep.  It was for two reasons – 1 the pilot was just that darn good at landing the plane, and 2 it was snowing so hard and so thick that if I were to have stuck my hand out the window of the aircraft, it would have been lost in the snow.  Now THAT…is snow!

Denver proved no better for us.  We were delayed another 2 hours (almost) because our plane was coming in from Colorado Springs, and they had an even bigger snow storm than Denver.  So, we had to wait for our plane to get there.  We were lucky they didn’t cancel the flight, because they were canceling flights to Colorado Springs left & right.  We finally landed in Austin, TX about 3:30 PM…3 hours behind schedule!  Oh well…at least we got there!  Needless to say, by the time we got to Brenham, we ate supper with my parents, and went to bed!

Friday we got up & did some last minute shopping errands in Houston.  That city was a zoo!!  But, we were in and out in no time so it turned out to be good.  Then that night we had our favorite Mexican food for supper…Mariachi’s!  We love that place!!  In the process I got to see some old friends there, too, so that made it even more special to go to dinner there!

Saturday we spent the afternoon at my Dad’s side of the family.  My Aunts & Uncle all come to my Meemaw’s house & we play cards & board games & open gifts.  It’s a lot of fun!  Wesley got a great tool bag holder thing (I’m not really sure what you call it, but he LOVES it..stores all his tools in it) from my Meemaw & Popo, and I got a gift card from them to JC Penny’s.  Then we got a beautiful cross from my Aunt Tina, and a pretty bird house & water holder for birds from my Aunt Diane & Uncle Steve.

Sunday, Christmas Day, we spent with my Mom’s side of the family.  We got LOTS of goodies from my Granny & Papa.  We both got clothes, and Wesley got some nice tools, shirts, and different things for the house.  I got clothes, boots, and gift cards.  Then we went home that night & had Christmas with my parents & sister & brother-in-law.   We got even MORE good things!!!  Wesley got lots of tools that he absolutely loves.  He was like a kid all over again the other night when he was opening all the wrench sets, sockets, pliers and all, and organizing them in his bag!  Then he got another nice shirt and a nice Hooey hat.  I got some brown boots, clothes, and more gift cards.  It was wonderful!  Then we each had something nice in our stockings.  We all got lottery tickets & car scents and different knick knacks from my parents.  We were very blessed and so thankful to be able to get to spend Christmas with my family in Texas, and with Moo Moo & David beforehand.

Monday we were pretty lazy, although we did run to College Station to take some pants back that I got for Christmas, and exchange them for a different size.  Then we spent the afternoon packing all our Christmas gifts & goodies in our check in suitcase, and our clothes in our carryon bags so we didn’t have to ship anything to us!  It worked out perfectly.

Tuesday we got up early, again, to head back home to Montana.  It was pretty emotional leaving my parents at the airport, but we are so grateful for their love & support and can’t wait for them to come up to see us and where we live!  We didn’t have any delays getting back home, but it was another exhausting trip having to get up at 4 AM (3 AM Montana time) to make our flights.  We got back to Montana about 1 PM and neither of us were feeling good at all.  I think we both caught something on the plane, because we are just now getting to where we both feel better.

Tuesday evening we had dinner with his parents & sister Mandy and her boyfriend Matt.  They gave me a nice sweatshirt, and Wesley a nice handmade headstall for his horse.   Then they gave us a picture of our brand, a D hanging D, that Matt handmade.  And finally, they gave us a huge cowhide rug to put in our house!  We are still trying to decide where to put our cowhide rug at…but it will probably go in our living room!  Then he opened his present from his sister Christi and her fiancĂ© Clint.  She had a beautiful 11X14 photo enlarged of Wesley on his horse Champion from their branding last year.  It is the most gorgeous picture I’ve seen.  She did an excellent job on it!  We are hanging that in our living room, for sure!!  All in all we had a wonderful Christmas and are so blessed by God for everything we have!

I was home sick from work Wednesday because I still wasn’t feeling well at all.  Wesley was feeling pretty bad Wednesday too, but today we feel a lot better, and are hoping it continues and we continue to get better!!

Tomorrow we are ringing in the New Year by attending a wedding of a friend of the family.  I will certainly take pictures of Wesley & myself because we are going to be all dressed up.  We will be there most of the evening, but will be home in time to ring in the beginning of the New Year in our new home together.  We are very blessed with each other, and hope everyone has a very happy and safe New Year!!!
