Roping, Riding, & Everything in Between

There hasn’t been much going on up this way.  The weather has been very pleasant (surprisingly…so we won’t talk about it anymore…might jinx it) so we have been able to be outside without feeling as though we are going to freeze in the very spot we are standing!  Friday evening we hung out at the house & cooked dinner & played a game.  Then Saturday we went & fed the heifers & steers, and then took our colts to Miles City for a few hours to practice roping on them again.  They did very well, again, considering this is only their second time out.  Saturday evening we had my company’s annual banquet here at our country club.  We ate & had some laughs before heading home.  Sunday when we went to feed the steers I noticed a little lonesome steer farther up in the hills standing by himself.  We knew he wasn’t feeling the best because we could see him through the scope of the gun (no, we did not shoot him, we just used the scope to get a better look before deciding the best action to take).  So we came back to the barn and saddled a few horses & took off toward the steer.  We got a nice little ride in on Sunday morning, and the weather was beautiful for such an occasion.  It was about 45-50 degrees out and the sun was shining bright.  We didn’t have to rope him (which was a good thing), so we just trailed him back to the corral so he could get some shots, then took him back out into another pasture for observation for the next few days.

Wesley has been teaching me to rope, and I’m starting to get a decent hang of it.  So after we unsaddled the horses we practiced some with me roping the dummy.  I made good progress Sunday, so hopefully I continue that way!  After that we took a few things we needed to get rid of at the house to the dump, and started staining some trim we are going to put in the house.  On the way to & from the dump we did a little hunting of some critters on the ranch.

We didn’t watch much of the Superbowl, but rather played Monopoly instead.  I normally win at Monopoly, but this time Wesley really beat my butt!  We had a good game going too…but he owned practically the whole Monopoly board!  We fast forwarded through much of the game, but made sure to watch the commercials!  There were some pretty funny commercials this year, and of course, some that were just dumb.  Neither of us cared to watch the Superbowl because we weren’t really pulling for either team that was playing.  But, I’m not going to extend my “congrats” to the NY Giants.  If I had to choose I would have picked the Patriots to win, just because Tom Brady is a much better quarterback than Eli Manning is…Eli just tends to get lucky.  Oh well…on to next season…and GO TEXANS!

The weather is pretty gloomy outside today, no sunshine to speak of.  But the weekend is supposed to be beautiful.  We are going to Miles City Friday to run some errands, and then meet up with Clint & Sarah for dinner (and possibly dancing?!).  I’m sure we’ll rope sometime this weekend, probably Saturday.  Other than that there are no real plans for the weekend…which is just the way we like it!  We might do a little hunting like we did this past weekend…if the weather is nice.  I hope everyone has a fantastic week!!

P.S.  Let the rain keep falling in Texas, but hopefully the tornado’s and other bad weather stay away!  Hopefully the drought y’all are in will end sooner rather than later.
